Woven by hand from elephant grass in Bolga, in Ghana's Upper East, this laundry basket comes with its own fitted lid - so the washing stays out of sight until you're ready to deal with it. Pink and red stripes run through the natural tan grass, finished with a neat woven finial on the lid and two woven loop handles for carrying it from room to room.

It stands 46cm high and 40cm across, big enough for a proper wash load without taking over a bathroom or utility room corner. Every basket is handwoven by artisans in Ghana, so the exact stripe pattern on yours will vary slightly from the next - part of what makes a handmade piece worth having.

Use it for laundry, or for blankets, toys, or anything else that needs a tidy home. Lid on, it looks good enough to leave out on show; lid off, it's simply a well-made storage basket that does its job.
